The actuality of the topic:
The considerable part of medical terms are attribute constructions, i. e. the
word-combinations consisting of a noun and one or several adjectives.
Mastering of the grammatical categories of adjectives, the rules of writing
adjectives in the vocabulary, finding the stem of adjectives, the principles of
agreement with nouns, the peculiarities of translation and use of some adjectives in
medical terminology is directed to the forming of making up, translation and use
habits of medical terms.
2. The specific aims:
1. To be acquainted with the principle of division of Latin adjectives into
groups.
2. To master the gender endings of the 1-st group adjectives.
3. To master the gender endings of the 2-nd group adjectives.
4. To learn to write down adjectives in the vocabulary form.
5. To know the peculiarities of using the adjectives major, ius; minor, us in
medical terminology.
6. To know how to agree adjectives with nouns.
7. To know how to translate terminological word-combinations from Latin
into English and on the contrary.
3. Basic knowledge, skills, habits, necessary for studying of the topic
(inter-disciplinary integration).
