2. Latin has become the language of science, culture, education and religion.
Such sciences as biology, chemistry, mathematics, law and diplomacy use Latin for
their terms. In Catholic churches the service is conducted in Latin nowadays.
3. Latin together with latinized Greek roots and word-building elements has
become the basis of international medical terminology which consists of three big
groups of terms:
a) anatomic terminology;
b) clinical terminology;
c) pharmaceutical terminology.
The Latin alphabet
The Latin alphabet consists of 25 letters. The sounds which the letters
represent are divided into vowels and consonants. There are six vowels: a, e, i, o, u,
y. Other sounds are consonants.
The Latin alphabet has become the basis of alphabets of many European
languages. The English ABC is almost the same as the Latin one.
