The actuality of the topic:
Most chemical elements which are used as medications have two names:
1. Scientific (systemic) name, in which the composition and location of
components correspond to the composition and structure of a chemical compound’s
molecule.
2. Trivial (agreed) name, which does not reflect the systematic principles of
scientific classification, but is convenient for practical use because of its simple
phonetic and grammar structure and short form.
Trivial names can denote the chemical composition of a medication, the
pharmacological group it belongs to, its therapeutic effect, etc. That’s why it is
necessary to know the combining forms denoting the chemical structure of the drug
preparation and combining forms with therapeutic, anatomic, physiological and
pharmacological meaning.
2. The specific aims:
1. To know the combining forms denoting the chemical structure of the drug
preparation.
2. To know the combining forms with therapeutic, anatomic, physiological and
pharmacological meaning.
3. To know how to distinguish different combining forms in the names of
medicinal preparations.
3. Basic knowledge, skills, habits, necessary for studying of the topic
(inter-disciplinary integration).
