The actuality of the topic:
The list of practical habits on the discipline “Latin language and medical
terminology” includes the practical use of the rules of the prescription-writing in the
translation and in solving the prescription tasks; the automatism in writing the
names of the pharmaceutical preparations which contain the specialized
pharmacological, therapeutic, chemical and other information; the automatism in
the perception and written representation of the terms-composites of the Greek and
Latin origin; the easy translation of the main clinical diagnoses of the principal
medical branches – therapy, surgery, nervous diseases, stomatological diseases,
gynaecology and others. The actuality of the topic “The summary module control”
is in the checking of the quality of the knowledge, skills and habits acquired by
students.
2. The specific aims:
1. To know how to use the verbs in the prescription form.
2. To know what the chemical nomenclature is.
3. To know what Latin names of chemical elements are.
4. To know the kinds of acids, oxides and salts, the ways of forming their
Latin names.
5. To know how to translate the names of chemical compounds from Latin
into English and on the contrary.
6. To know the combining forms denoting the chemical structure of the drug
preparation.
7. To know the combining forms with therapeutic, anatomic, physiological
and pharmacological meaning.
8. To know how to distinguish different combining forms in the names of
medicinal preparations.
9. To know the meaning of some botanical and pharmaceutical names of
medicinal plants in English.
10. To know the definition and the structure of a prescription.
