could not be trusted with its information. The representatives clamored<br />

publicly to reassure the <strong>CIA</strong> they could keep secrets. Not one<br />

legislator promised to tell the American people if the <strong>CIA</strong> again<br />

abuses their rights or attempts to drag the nation into foolish wars.•<br />

And while the oversight committees are preoccupied with proving to<br />

the <strong>CIA</strong> that they can keep a secret, the clandestine service continues<br />

to do its thing in most comers <strong>of</strong> the world.<br />
