Operations Manual
Fire Prevention Division
Purpose
To provide members with an understanding of the functions of the Fire Prevention Division.
Objective
A. To provide a description of the functions of the Fire Prevention Division.
B. To establish guidelines to facilitate the functions of the Fire Prevention Division in an attempt to
achieve the ultimate purpose of this division, this is to reduce life and property losses due to fire.
Scope
The Fire Prevention Division is coordinated by the Deputy Chief and includes Fire Inspectors, Fire
Investigator, and the Training Captain.
Responsibility
A. Fire prevention, life safety, and public education play an important role in the operations of the
Fire Prevention Division. All Fire Department members, through a coordinated effort, are
responsible for assisting the Fire Prevention Division in conducting the various programs that are
provided for the citizens of Cleveland and Bradley County.
B. The Fire Inspectors shall keep accurate records of all inspections made by the division, either by
Company inspections or inspections done by individual inspectors.
C. The Fire Inspectors shall make periodic Fire inspections of all occupancies, other than one and two
family single unit dwellings.
D. The Fire Inspectors shall be responsible for the enforcement of fire codes recognized by the Fire
Department and the elimination of fire hazards.
E. The Fire Inspectors shall assist the Training Captain in the education of all Fire Department
personnel of special or peculiar hazards located within their districts.
F. The Fire Inspectors shall keep such records and submit reports and recommendations as needed to
properly inform the Fire Chief and other proper authorities of the activities of the Inspections
Department.
G. The Fire Inspectors shall submit a monthly report to the Fire Chief of the activities of the
Inspections Division that shall be forwarded to the City Manager.
