9. Scheduling of recruit training.
10. Providing all necessary support and assistance to the Battalion Commanders and Shift
Instructors relative to training matters.
11. Scheduling of all special training sessions.
12. Assuring that all required training courses are developed and offered.
C. Battalion Commanders are responsible for:
1. Evaluating the training needs of their respective shifts and reporting to the Training
Coordinator.
2. Coordinating with the Shift Instructor under their supervision relative to training needs
and requirements.
3. Coordinating with the Training Captain in matters related to training.
D. Shift Instructors will serve as an assistant to the Training Captain.
E. All Fire Department members are responsible for participating in Fire Department training
activities and for maintaining personal and professional competence relative to their respective
classification and position within the Department.
Policy
A. The Fire Department shall provide a regular and continuous standardized training program to its
members.
B. The Fire Department shall provide standardized training references and materials made available
for the use of its members in conjunction with the Fire Department training program.
C. All Fire Department members shall participate in the Fire Department training program.
Training Manuals
A. The International Fire Science Training Association (IFSTA) Manuals shall be used for training
firefighting personnel in accordance with the Tennessee Commission of Fire Fighting Standards
and Education.
B. In order to be certified by the Tennessee Commission of Fire Fighting, it is essential for all
firefighting personnel to study and fully comprehend the IFSTA Manuals.
C. The IFSTA Manuals shall be used in preparation for the certification test, and it also shall be
employed in the daily operation of training procedures.
D. The most current editions of the IFSTA Manuals shall be updated on a continual basis.
E. Any procedure that is found to be a benefit to the City of Cleveland Fire Department and approved
by the Fire Chief shall be utilized in conjunction with the procedures of the IFSTA Manuals.
