Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or
diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to

employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or
crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required
by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
ability to adjust focus.

Arson Investigator
Reports To: Deputy Chief
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary
Investigates and analyzes evidence of fires to determine causes and testifies as expert witness in court by
performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Examines sites of fires and collects evidence to ascertain causes of fires.
Photographs fire damage and evidence of fire causes and stores evidence in vault.
Questions persons reporting fires, firefighters, police, and others to obtain information.
Compiles investigation results, determines probably causes of fire, and reports results to superiors.
Cooperates with police and insurance companies to investigate reports of fires and stolen flammable
materials.
Swears out warrants for arrest for suspected arsonists.
Gives testimony in court cases involving fires, suspected arson, and false fire alarms.
