Operations Manual
Fire Company Demonstrations
Purpose
A. To provide the public with information concerning Fire Department activities as they relate to the
functions and duties of the Engine and Truck Companies.
B. To provide the public with the opportunity to view a Fire Department Engine or Truck and to
observe a demonstration of its operation and the operation of some of the fire company’s
equipment.
Objective
A. To provide policy and guidelines relative to Fire Department Engine and Truck Company
demonstrations.
B. To provide an outline for conducting an Engine or Truck Company demonstration.
Scope
This policy applies to all members involved in conducting a Fire Department Company demonstration.
Responsibility
A. Those members who conduct Fire Department Engine and Truck Company demonstrations shall
conduct such demonstrations in a safe and efficient manner so as to prevent injuries to anyone
present and so as not to place apparatus and/or equipment in a non-serviceable condition.
B. Those members involved in conducting a Fire Department Company demonstration shall do so in
a manner so as to promote a professional fire service image, good will, and good community
relations.
Policy
A. The Fire Department shall provide Engine and Ladder/Truck Company demonstrations to
members of the general public on both a scheduled and non-scheduled basis.
B. The scheduling of Company demonstrations shall normally be handled by the Deputy Chief. Such
scheduling shall be coordinated with the Fire Suppression Division via the Battalion Commander
and the Company Officers.
C. Battalion Commanders may schedule Pumper demonstrations for interested groups and/or
individuals, providing that such demonstrations are to be conducted by their own Companies.
When scheduling such demonstrations, Battalion Commanders shall coordinate with their
Company Officers to avoid conflicts.
