2. Incident Stabilization
a. Eliminate sources of ignition.
b. Reduce or stop leak if it is a contributing factor.
c. Apply absorbent (If spill requires more absorbent than Cleveland Fire
Department can supply, the Incident Commander shall notify the Cleveland Fire
Department Hazardous Materials Team).
d. Contain spill to area of origin.
e. Apply foam, if required.
f. Ventilate buildings
3. Property Conservation
a. Remove mobile property from the immediate hazard area. Example --
vehicles.(only if the situation warrants. Be aware of hazardous atmospheres.)
b. Small spills may be cleaned up by the Cleveland Fire Department.
c. Large spills should be cleaned up by a company ordered by Command or by the
party responsible for the spill. Request the clean up company to replace any
materials used.
