Washing Private Vehicles
Purpose
To provide a policy for allowing Fire Department personnel to wash private vehicles while on duty.
Objective
To establish guidelines for washing private vehicles while on duty.
Scope
This policy applies to all Fire Department personnel.
Responsibility
All Officers are responsible for enforcing this policy.
Policy
A. Members are allowed to wash personal vehicles and vehicles of immediate family members while
on duty.
B. Members may wash their personal vehicle if time permits and if it does not interfere with work
activities or training.
C. Personal vehicles may be washed after 1700 hours Monday through Friday and anytime on
Saturday or Sunday at the discretion of Battalion Commander or Officer in Charge.
D. During inclement or freezing weather, apparatus will not be moved out of the bay area to wash
personal vehicles.
E. Vehicles used for personnel business purposes may also be washed in the Bay area provided this
vehicle is the primary vehicle used to transport the member to and from work.
F. The bay area must be policed and cleaned when vehicle washing is completed. Any member not
cleaning the bay area after use will have his/her vehicle washing privileges revoked.
G. Vehicles are not to be left inside the apparatus bay for an extended period of time or overnight.
