Clinical departments assume responsibility for advising students in the clinical years.In addition to a faculty advisor, a student may seek the advice <strong>of</strong> a mentor. The<strong>College</strong> will endeavor to assist in this process.Student Tutor ProgramThrough the Office <strong>of</strong> Student Services, <strong>Touro</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>fers academic support,including peer tutoring services without charge. Tutoring is available during allacademic years and is designed to help students enhance their test taking skills, modifytheir study habits and/or focus on critical material and content. This <strong>of</strong>fice can alsoassist the student by identifying resources for such areas as: assessment <strong>of</strong> learningstyles, time management, test-taking strategies, study skills, and referrals for specialaccommodations.Students are eligible to apply to be a tutor in a specific subject if they are approved bythe coordinator <strong>of</strong> the course in which the subject is taught. Students must be able tocommunicate effectively, have mastered the course material and be in good academicstanding. Tutors receive an hourly honorarium for their services. Student tutors musthave registered in the Office <strong>of</strong> Student Services to be eligible for reimbursement <strong>of</strong>services.Initially, students need not be in academic difficulty to request peer tutoring. However,following the first examination, those students who are receiving a grade <strong>of</strong> 80% orlower in a course will be given priority in the program. Applications to tutor andrequests for tutoring services are available in the Office <strong>of</strong> Student Services.Student OrganizationsSTUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATIONThe Student Government Association (SGA) is the <strong>of</strong>ficial voice for all students. Theorganization is open to all students in the <strong>University</strong> and welcomes proposals andparticipation from the entire body.The responsibilities <strong>of</strong> SGA include: collecting and expressing student opinion,dispensing funds for student activities, acting as a liaison for the student body,promoting pr<strong>of</strong>essional education, supporting club and class activities and working toimprove the quality <strong>of</strong> life for all students at TUC.RECOGNITION OF STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS<strong>2011</strong> – <strong>2012</strong> COM Student Handbook
