The student Education Committeewill have the first 5 days <strong>of</strong> the spring term in which to present appeals to thecourse coordinator. The student EducationCommittee will have 5 days in which to present appeals to the coursecoordinator, who will then have 3 additional days to post both block and finalcourse grades and to report these grades to the Registrar.• It is the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the faculty to provide accurate grades to the Registrarand to adhere to the timelines stated above.• Individual students should not contact the instructor for special consideration.Any grade changes after the final grades are provided to the Registrar must besubmitted on the Official Change <strong>of</strong> Grade Form and have the requiredapprovals.Attendance PoliciesIt is expected that students will attend all lectures in the required curriculum,laboratory activities, clinical rotations, elective, and audited courses. Departmentsand/or individual courses may establish more specific attendance requirements.Students requesting an excused absence from any required activity must complete aRequest for Excused Absence Form and submit it to the Associate Dean for PreclinicalEducation or designee preferably before the absence occurs or within one week afterreturning to campus. The Associate Dean for Preclinical Education or designee willdetermine whether the absence is excused or not and will notify the student and theappropriate faculty. Students who must miss laboratory or clerkship sessions shouldalso notify the instructor or preceptor as soon as possible prior to the session to allowfor any necessary accommodations. Failure to attend elective or audited courses and/orlaboratories may result in the removal <strong>of</strong> the elective credit or audit from the student'srecord. Absences from any instructional session for any reason do not relieve thestudent from responsibility for covered material. Chronic unexcused absences may beviewed as violations <strong>of</strong> the Code <strong>of</strong> Responsibilities and Rights <strong>of</strong> the Students.<strong>2011</strong> – <strong>2012</strong> COM Student Handbook
