Dismissal from the <strong>College</strong>The <strong>College</strong> may require dismissal at any time it deems necessary to safeguard itsstandards <strong>of</strong> scholarship, conduct and orderly operation. It should be clearlyunderstood that TUC, after due consideration and process, reserves the right to requirethe dismissal <strong>of</strong> any student at any time before graduation if circumstances <strong>of</strong> a legal,moral, behavioral, ethical, health or academic nature justify such an action. Theacademic reasons for dismissal include but are not limited to the following:1. A student's cumulative curriculum weighted average for any one academic yearis less than 70%.2. A student who earns a failing grade in a repeated course or repeated clinicalclerkship.3. A student who fails a re-examination under a remediation plan.4. A student who fails two clinical clerkships.5. A student who exceeds the limit for completion <strong>of</strong> the prescribed curriculum asdefined by the program.6. A student who does not remedy a failed grade(s) within one calendar year <strong>of</strong> theissuance <strong>of</strong> the failed grade.7. A student who fails to pass COMLEX 1, 2 CE, or 2 PE within the maximumallowable number <strong>of</strong> attempts.8. A student has not demonstrated continued academic and pr<strong>of</strong>essional growthand achievement.Decisions regarding dismissal are made on an individual basis after considering allpertinent circumstances and extenuating circumstances relating to the case. The StudentPromotion Committee recommends dismissal to the Dean. The Dean issues a letter <strong>of</strong>decision to the student.Academic Appeal ProcessFollowing notification (traceable letter delivery) <strong>of</strong> a decision for dismissal, a studentmay wish to appeal the decision. He or she has (7) working days within which tosubmit a formal written appeal <strong>of</strong> the decision to the Dean. The appeal request must besubmitted in writing and delivered to the Office <strong>of</strong> the Dean within this seven day<strong>2011</strong> – <strong>2012</strong> COM Student Handbook
