first two (preclerkship) years <strong>of</strong> less than 74% will require participation in thispreparatory program.Limitation on Rotation Site AssignmentsThe Department <strong>of</strong> Clinical Education will assign third year rotation sites for anystudent with a cumulative weighted percentage grade after the first two (preclerkship)years <strong>of</strong> less than 74%. Student input into the selection process will be limited in thesecases.Passage <strong>of</strong> COMLEX Examinations (Effective with Class <strong>of</strong> <strong>2011</strong>)Passage <strong>of</strong> the Comprehensive <strong>Osteopathic</strong> Medical Licensing Examination (COMLEX) Part 1,Part 2 CE and Part 2 PE is required for graduation. Students are responsible for maintaining anawareness <strong>of</strong> registration requirements and deadlines. Test registration, as well as any fees,travel costs, or accommodations are also the students‟ responsibility. Information on COMLEXis available at: http://www.nbome.orgAttempts and passage <strong>of</strong> the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) series isoptional. Students again maintain responsibility for registration, deadlines, and costs.Information on USMLE is available at: http://www.usmle.org<strong>Touro</strong> <strong>University</strong> policies regarding COMLEX are as follows:Every student will be allowed a minimum <strong>of</strong> two and a maximum <strong>of</strong> three attempts eachto pass COMLEX Level 1, COMLEX Level 2CE and COMLEX Level 2PE, except that no studentwill be allowed more than a total <strong>of</strong> four failures for all parts <strong>of</strong> the COMLEX series.COMLEX Level 1:COMLEX Level 1 is to be taken prior to commencing the COM Year 3 Clinical Clerkship coursesequence. Students in good academic standing as <strong>of</strong> 1 January <strong>of</strong> the OMS II curriculum areapproved for registration for COMLEX Level 1 by the Associate Dean for Pre-ClinicalEducation. Students are allowed to take COMLEX Level 1 only after they have completed allrequirements <strong>of</strong> the pre-clinical curriculum.Upon failure <strong>of</strong> COMLEX Level 1 the first time, the student will be placed on academicprobation, will be removed from rotations until a passing score is received, and will take an<strong>of</strong>ficial leave <strong>of</strong> absence, unless the student is using a regular vacation month, in order toprepare for a second attempt at the examination. Upon failure <strong>of</strong> COMLEX Level 1 the studentwill be removed from their core Year 3 clerkship program schedule and host facility (-ies), andwill be re-assigned at the discretion <strong>of</strong> the Clinical Education Department once a passing scoreis received.The Student Promotion Committee will review the student‟s entire academic record and the<strong>2011</strong> – <strong>2012</strong> COM Student Handbook
