Thestudent will be required to meet with the university Learning Specialist and a remediation planwill be recommended, in collaboration with the Student Promotion Committee. A passing scoremust be received prior to resumption <strong>of</strong> clinical rotations.If a passing score is not received prior to 1 September <strong>of</strong> the Year 3 curriculum it will not bepossible for the student to complete the required 88 weeks <strong>of</strong> clinical rotation prior to theconferral deadline for their expected graduation date. A student who does not have a passingscore prior to 1 September <strong>of</strong> the Year 3 curriculum automatically becomes a member <strong>of</strong> thenext graduating class. In this circumstance the student will enter an extended Leave <strong>of</strong> Absenceuntil the start <strong>of</strong> Year 3 clinical rotations for their new graduating class (i.e., their enrollment issuspended until June <strong>of</strong> their third academic year <strong>of</strong> matriculation).If a passing score is received prior to 1 September <strong>of</strong> the Year 3 curriculum the student will bere-assigned to a core Year 3 clinical rotation program and will be removed from academicprobation. If a passing score is received after 1 September <strong>of</strong> the Year 3 curriculum the studentwill be removed from academic probation and will be re-assigned to a core Year 3 clinicalrotation program that begins the following June.If the second attempt to pass COMLEX Level 1 results in a failing score the student is referred tothe Student Promotions Committee for a recommendation on dismissal or remediation. If thestudent remains enrolled the student will be continued on academic probation. The studentwill be required to meet with the university Learning Specialist and a remediation plan will berecommended, in collaboration with the Student Promotion Committee. The student may beasked to return to campus to complete the remediation plan.Failure <strong>of</strong> a third attempt may result in dismissal from the college.At all times, the student will be responsible for completing all paperwork, including leave<strong>of</strong> absence and add/drop forms, if applicable.COMLEX Level 2 CE:COMLEX Level 2 CE is to be taken no later than 1 March <strong>of</strong> the student‟s 4th year. A passinggrade must be received prior to and is required for graduation. Students in good academicstanding as <strong>of</strong> 1 January <strong>of</strong> the OMS III curriculum are approved for registration for COMLEXLevel 2 CE by the Assistant Dean <strong>of</strong> Clinical Education.Upon failure <strong>of</strong> COMLEX Level 2 CE the first time, the student will be placed on academicprobation and will be recommended to be removed from rotations and to take an <strong>of</strong>ficial leave<strong>of</strong> absence for one month, unless the student is using a regular vacation month, in order toprepare for a second attempt at the examination. The Student Promotion Committee will reviewthe student‟s entire academic record, all previous COMLEX scores, and the cumulative z-scorefrom the preclerkship curriculum, and will meet with the student. The student will be requiredto meet with the university Learning Specialist and a remediation plan will be recommended, incollaboration with the Student Promotion Committee.<strong>2011</strong> – <strong>2012</strong> COM Student Handbook
