examination room. The finish time for the examination will be as for thestudents who arrived on time.3. The student unable to attend a scheduled examination for any reason must notifythe Associate Dean for Preclinical Education or designee as soon as possible priorto the start <strong>of</strong> the exam. Contact may be in person or via voice mail or e-mail.The Associate Dean for Preclinical Education or designee will immediately notifythe Course Coordinator <strong>of</strong> the student‟s absence and will determine (within 48hours) whether the absence is excused or unexcused and notify the CourseCoordinator and the student <strong>of</strong> the decision. Absences due to illness must besupported by a physician‟s note in most cases. If the reason for the absence isjudged by the Associate Dean for Preclinical Education or designee to be causedby a circumstance or condition that may impact the student‟s future academicprogress, the Associate Dean <strong>of</strong> Student Services will also be notified. Allcommunications and decisions regarding excused absences must by recorded bythe Associate Dean for Preclinical Education or designee.4. Make-up examinations must be accomplished within 72 hours. In the case <strong>of</strong> anillness or extenuating circumstances, the make-up must be accomplished within72 hours <strong>of</strong> a physician/mental health practitioner release or reasonableresolution <strong>of</strong> the extenuating circumstances. Extenuating circumstances mayrequire an extension <strong>of</strong> the make-up period. This will be coordinated by theCourse Coordinator and Associate Dean for Preclinical Education or designee.5. When an examination is to be rescheduled every effort will be made to ensurethe examination does not conflict with regularly scheduled lecture times. In nocase will make up examinations be scheduled to conflict with required lecturesor labs.6. Scores awarded for unexcused absences will be 90% <strong>of</strong> the raw score achieved inthe make-up examination.7. A second unexcused absence will be reported to the Student PromotionCommittee for appropriate action.8. Failure to make up the examination within the specified time period will result ina grade <strong>of</strong> “Zero” for that examination.<strong>2011</strong> – <strong>2012</strong> COM Student Handbook
