DEGREE REQUIREMENTSThe minimum requir<strong>em</strong>ents for the Master of Arts degree in addition to those discussed above consist of:A. Thirty-six s<strong>em</strong>ester hours of graduate credits and such other credits as the student’s graduate advisor andcommittee may de<strong>em</strong> appropriate after a review of the student’s objectives and the acad<strong>em</strong>ic record;B. A residency of at least one s<strong>em</strong>ester or one full summer session of full-time continuous enrollment, andapproval for graduation from the <strong>Graduate</strong> School.Admission to Candidacy for a Degree: The comprehensive examination appropriate for the particular option will berequired as a condition for admission to candidacy for the degree.Within two weeks after taking the comprehensive examination, the student will be notified in writing by the examinationcommittee of the results. The committee will have reached one of the following decisions:* Pass, file papers for candidacy.* Pass, but the student must complete certain additional requir<strong>em</strong>ents.* Pass in part, student must retake the unacceptable part at the next scheduled examination time or after thestudent has completed certain additional requir<strong>em</strong>ents.* Unacceptable (first att<strong>em</strong>pt), student must complete certain additional requir<strong>em</strong>ents before retaking the examination.• Unacceptable (second att<strong>em</strong>pt), student’s situation will be reviewed by the Supervisory Committee in consultation withthe <strong>Graduate</strong> Advisor and a graduate faculty committee of three chosen from the graduate faculty of the institution.Master of Arts in SociologyPROGRAM OPTIONSProgram options consist of General Sociology; Clinical Sociology; and Urban/Applied Sociology. Requir<strong>em</strong>ents for eachof the plans are listed below.
