Mid-Manag<strong>em</strong>ent, Supervision,and the Superintendency ProgramREQUIREMENTS FOR CERTIFICATIONThe Master of Education Degree and/or Professional Certification in the State of <strong>Texas</strong> are offered in the Department ofEducational Leadership and Counseling.1. Master’s Degree and Certification in Professional Supervision2. Master’s Degree and Certification in Special Education Supervision3. Master’s Degree and Certification in Professional Mid-Manag<strong>em</strong>ent Administration4. T<strong>em</strong>porary Assistant Principal Certificate5. T<strong>em</strong>porary Mid-Manag<strong>em</strong>ent Administrator (Principal) Certificate6. Professional Superintendent Certification7. T<strong>em</strong>porary Superintendent CertificationGENERAL REQUIREMENTSIn addition to meeting the <strong>Graduate</strong> School’s requir<strong>em</strong>ents for admission, retention, examinations, candidacy and graduationas listed elsewhere, the student shall:1. Submit an application, personal information, and recommendations on forms provided by the <strong>Graduate</strong>School.2. Submit evidence of holding the Provisional Teacher Certificate and at least two years creditable classroomteaching experience for the administrator programs or three years for supervision.3. Complete requir<strong>em</strong>ents of the Department Screening Committee as approved by the <strong>Graduate</strong> School.4. File a degree and/or certificate plan with faculty advisor and with the <strong>Graduate</strong> School Office.A Comprehensive Examination will be required of all students within six (6) hours of graduation. Eligibility to take theComprehensive Examination, designed by the Educational Administration faculty, will be determined by the advisor andthe Department Chair. Passing the Comprehensive Examination with a score of 75 is required for graduation and forapproval to apply to take the ExCET.PROGRAM OBJECTIVESThe programs in educational administration and supervision are designed to develop competencies in the following:• Principles of school law, school finance, business affairs negotiations, public relations and personneladministration;• Probl<strong>em</strong>-solving techniques and decision-making skills;• Manag<strong>em</strong>ent of regular, vocational, special education, and compensatory programs;• Administration of the curriculum development process and evaluation of personnel and program performance;• Leadership characteristics and the ability to be change agents;• Syst<strong>em</strong>s design and impl<strong>em</strong>entation;• Application of knowledge from a broad interdisciplinary background;• Application of research in educational administration;• Human relations, group dynamics and communication skills, career growth and personal maintenanceskills;• Development and understanding of one’s educational philosophy.Professional Supervisor CertificateA.
