GRADUATION UNDER A SPECIFIC BULLETINThe student may elect to graduate under the bulletin in force at the time of his or her initial matriculation in the <strong>Graduate</strong>School, provided that the bulletin was not issued more than six years (seven years for doctoral programs) prior to the dateof the student’s graduation. The student is required to indicate in his/her application for graduation the bulletin under whichthe student proposes to graduate and meet the requir<strong>em</strong>ents in that bulletin.COMMENCEMENT CONVOCATIONAll graduating students shall participate in the commenc<strong>em</strong>ent exercises. Only students who have completed all requir<strong>em</strong>entsfor the degree can participate in the commenc<strong>em</strong>ent exercises.CONTINUOUS ENROLLMENTAll graduate students engaged in independent study or in research related to the preparation of a thesis or dissertation mustbe enrolled at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong> for a minimum of three s<strong>em</strong>ester hours during each s<strong>em</strong>ester or summer sessionin which the study or research occurs.Except for students who must r<strong>em</strong>ove incomplete grades, all graduate students must be enrolled at <strong>Texas</strong> <strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong>during the s<strong>em</strong>ester in which degree program requir<strong>em</strong>ents are expected to be completed. The requir<strong>em</strong>ents include butare not limited to the English Proficiency Examination, the Comprehensive Examination in the major and/or minor areas,Foreign Language Examination, Thesis or Dissertation Examination, and Final Doctoral Examination.SUMMER SESSIONThe <strong>University</strong> holds a summer session of two six-week terms. It is possible to fulfill all of the requir<strong>em</strong>ents for the master’sdegree by attendance at summer sessions.<strong>Graduate</strong> courses offered in the summer are taught by m<strong>em</strong>bers of the regular faculty, suppl<strong>em</strong>ented by a number of visitingprofessors.NOTE: Not all of the courses shown in this bulletin are offered every year. The class schedule, published just before theopening of each s<strong>em</strong>ester or term, carries the particular courses to be offered and the hours at which they are to meet.39
