TIME LIMIT FOR THEDOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY DEGREEAfter being admitted to a program leading to the Doctor of Philosophy degree, a student will be allowed seven calendaryears in which to complete all of the requir<strong>em</strong>ents for the degree including transferred credit and prior credit at <strong>Texas</strong><strong>Southern</strong> <strong>University</strong>.Continuation in the doctoral degree program beyond the seven-year limit must be approved by the student’s Doctoral DegreeAdvisory Committee and the Dean of the <strong>Graduate</strong> School. The maximum time allowed to complete the doctoral program,including an approved extension is nine calendar years. This time limit does not include work done as part of the requir<strong>em</strong>entsfor a master’s degree.ADMISSION CRITERIAMaster of Science DegreeEnvironmental ToxicologyApplicants must present a <strong>Graduate</strong> Record Examination (GRE) scores (combined verbal and quantitative) which are consideredalong with the applicant’s undergraduate grade point average that must be at least 2.75 overall or 3.0 in the lastsixty hours. In addition to the above requir<strong>em</strong>ents, the socioeconomic background of applicants will be considered in theadmission process.a. Economic status of family when applicant was in el<strong>em</strong>entary, secondary,and undergraduate school.a. Applicant was first generation to attend undergraduate school.b. Applicant was first generation to attend graduate or professional school.c. Applicant is multi-lingual.d. Applicant was <strong>em</strong>ployed while attending undergraduate school.e. Applicant helped to raise other children in family.f. Geographic residence in <strong>Texas</strong> of applicant at time of application.g. Geographic region in which applicants high school is located.i. Applicant d<strong>em</strong>onstrated performance in community activities.j. Applicant has d<strong>em</strong>onstrated commitment to a particular field of study.k. The presence or absence of role models with comparable graduate school trainingin the applicant’s region of residence.l.
