Hours to be arranged.……………………………………………Ed.D., Curriculum and Instruction……………………………………………The Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction is the advanced professional degree for teachers and instructionalspecialists who will serve in a variety of settings, including public schools and institutions of higher education.The mission of the doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction is the preparation of professionals who are competentin curriculum design and instructional application. The Curriculum and Instruction concentration is designed to developpersonnel who:1. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate a thorough knowledge of existing research in curriculum and instruction;2. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate a thorough knowledge of the historical, sociological, psychological and political theoriesunderlying curriculum revision and development;3. will be able to build upon their existing teaching experiences to provide a philosophical basis for generatingnew knowledge and adding to the existing knowledge in curriculum and instruction;4. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate an awareness of how diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds impact curriculum design andinstructional impl<strong>em</strong>entation;5. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate facility in planning, developing, impl<strong>em</strong>enting, and evaluating curriculum;6. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum theory;7. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate a thorough knowledge of the different curriculum evaluation procedures;8. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate an understanding of the interrelationship between curriculum development and instructionalapplication;9. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate effective and efficient knowledge of instructional techniques;10. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate an awareness and knowledge of the different teaching models;11. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate a thorough knowledge of statistical tools necessary for research;12. d<strong>em</strong>onstrate a thorough knowledge of the different research methods; and13. conceptualize and develop a comprehensive research project, utilizing statistical tools, research methods,and theory related to curriculum and instruction.PROGRAM OF STUDYThe program of study includes a minimum of sixty (60) s<strong>em</strong>ester hour credits beyond the master’s degree. The curriculumwould include a 15 s<strong>em</strong>ester hour foundation core; a 15 s<strong>em</strong>ester hour professional knowledge core and 15 s<strong>em</strong>ester hours(additional hours) in a major for a total of 30 s<strong>em</strong>ester hours; free electives (6 s<strong>em</strong>ester hours); internship (6 s<strong>em</strong>ester hours);and dissertation (6 s<strong>em</strong>ester hours). All students would be required to complete a two consecutive summer residency witha minimum of 12 s<strong>em</strong>ester hours. Twelve (12) s<strong>em</strong>ester credit hours must be completed after being admitted to candidacy.The distribution of the course work taken beyond the master’s degree will be as follows:118
