Table 1. z/OS File Transfer Qualifiers and Default ValuesQualifier-LABELnumber (INTEGER)-LABELTYPE (STRING)-MAXRECord (INTEGER)DescriptionThis qualifier specifies the relative file sequence number. The firstdata set on a set of tape volumes is file sequence number “1”, the seconddata set is “2”, etc. This qualifier is equivalent to the first positionalparameter of the z/OS JCL “LABEL=” keyword. NetEx/eFTautomatically retains volume serial information between tape data sets. This means that after creating tape data set one, the data set name isretained, so that when tape data set two is created it will be started onthe last volume used by data set one. The accepted range of values isbetween 0 and 9999.Specifying a value of zero causes NetEx/eFT to increment the lastsupplied “-LABELnumber” value by one and use that value for thenew file sequence number. If no value was previously supplied, thenew file sequence number is set to one.z/OS does not currently support retaining a volume allocated with DynamicAllocation (SVC 99) between data sets. This means that the lastvolume used by data set one will be physically dismounted after dataset one is closed and then remounted if data set two is opened. Thedata sets are created properly, but creating multiple data set tape volumeswill generate a tape dismount and remount between each dataset. This is an MVS limitation, not a NetEx/eFT limitation. It is intendedfor NetEx/eFT to support volume retention as soon as z/OSDynamic Allocation does.If volume dismounts are not acceptable at your site, MVS JCL can becreated supplying the “VOL=(,RETAIN)” keyword and NetEx/eFTfile transfer can be performed using the “DD:xxxxxxxx” facility. Inthis case, volume retention is performed as specified in the MVS JCLUser’s Guide. The default is 1. The minimum spelling is –LABEL.This qualifier specifies the label type to be used for a tape data set.Valid values are SL (standard label), AL (ANSI label), and NL (nolabel). If a value of AL or NL is specified, the LABELNUMBERqualifier must also be specified. This qualifier specifies the maximum allowed record size when readingfiles on the source host. MAXRECORD can only be used whenthe current transfer mode is RECORD mode. If an attempt is made totransfer a file that has records larger than MAXRECORD, the transferwill terminate with an appropriate error message. The accepted rangeof values is 1-65535.The default is 10000. The minimum spelling is -MAXREC.REF-eFT213-R5.4-08 File Handling Under IBM z/OS NetEx/eFT Page 45
