Schedule 1 The <strong>Criminal</strong> <strong>Code</strong>Part 5 Offences against the person and relating to marriage and parental rights and dutiesChapter 33 Offences against liberty[s 355](a) with intent to extort or gain anything from or procureanything to be done or omitted to be done by any personby a demand containing threats of detriment of any kindto be caused to any person, either by the offender or anyother person, if the demand is not complied with, takesor entices away, or detains, the person in respect ofwhom the threats are made; or(b) receives or harbours the said person in respect of whomthe threats are made, knowing such person to have beenso taken or enticed away, or detained;is guilty of a crime which is called kidnapping for ransom.(2) Any person who commits the crime of kidnapping for ransomis liable to imprisonment for 14 years.(3) If the person kidnapped has been unconditionally set at libertywithout such person having suffered any grievous bodilyharm, the offender is liable to imprisonment for 10 years.(4) Any person who attempts to commit the crime of kidnappingfor ransom is guilty of a crime and is liable to imprisonmentfor 7 years.355 Deprivation of libertyAny person who unlawfully confines or detains another in anyplace against the other person’s will, or otherwise unlawfullydeprives another of the other person’s personal liberty, isguilty of a misdemeanour, and is liable to imprisonment for 3years.356 False certificates by officers charged with duties relatingto libertyAny person who—(a) being required by law to give any certificate touchingany matter by virtue whereof the liberty of any personmay be affected, gives a certificate which, in anymaterial particular, is to the person’s knowledge false; orCurrent as at 1 December 2014 Page 217
