DPNSS 1 Network StructureDPNSS 1 refers to the Digital Private Network Signaling SystemNumber 1 as defined in the British Telecom St<strong>and</strong>ard BTNR 188. ADPNSS 1 network is comprised of a number of nodes connected byDPNSS 1 signaling links. Some nodes provide access to a number ofdifferent types of non-DPNSS 1 interfaces, which are considered to beusers of the DPNSS 1 network <strong>and</strong> are differentiated by category, suchas, Ordinary Extension, Operator, or PSTN.DPNSS 1 nodes can be either PBXs within a private network or publicexchanges that provide business communications network capability inthe form of Virtual Private Networks (VPN) <strong>and</strong> Centrex.A PBX may be marked as supporting DPNSS 1, yet may offer nosupplementary facilities other than the ability to perform simpletelephone class tasks.
