Distribution by Ethnicity and School Socioeconomic DecileIn New Zealand during 2011, while the proportion of students achieving a UniversityEntrance standard increased with increasing school socioeconomic decile, at each level ofsocioeconomic deprivation a higher proportion of Asian > European > Pacific and Māoristudents attained a University Entrance standard (Figure 44).Midland Region Distribution and TrendsMidland Region DistributionIn the Waikato during 2011, 17.1% of students left school with no formal qualifications, ascompared to 15.8% in Lakes DHB, 13.9% in the Bay of Plenty, 18.8% in Tairawhiti and11.7% in Taranaki. In contrast, 39.2% of Waikato students left with a University Entrancestandard, as compared to 39.2% in Lakes DHB, 44.6% in the Bay of Plenty, 35.4% inTairawhiti and 41.0% in Taranaki. While the proportion leaving with no formal qualificationsdeclined in all Midland DHBs during 2009–2011, the proportion attaining a UniversityEntrance standard increased (Figure 45).Figure 45.
