Midland Region DistributionMidland Region Number of Cigarettes SmokedDuring 2009–2010, the proportion of babies who did not have their mother’s smokingstatus at first LMC registration recorded in the National Maternity Collection varied from0.7% in the Bay of Plenty to 9.2% in the Waikato, with the majority of omissions being forbabies whose mothers were not registered with a LMC at delivery. Of those babies whosemother’s smoking status was known, the proportion with a non-smoking mother variedfrom 65.4% in Tairawhiti to 78.5% in the Waikato, while the proportion who had a motherwho smoked 10 or more cigarettes per day varied from 8.2% in <strong>Taranaki</strong> to 13.3% inTairawhiti (Table 31, Table 32).Table 31.
