Figure 51 shows that there is a reasonable geographical spread of skate parksacross the City, and that many areas are within 20 minutes walk of a facility.ConsultationElected Mayor’s Green Paper423. The survey showed some support for more and better skateboard facilities andalso for skate events.Household Survey424. The provision of sports courts/MUGAs and skate parks were not specificallyconsidered as part of the Elected Mayor’s Green Paper nor the household surveybecause young people tend not respond to such surveys. Instead these facilitieswere considered as part of the Children and Young People Survey.Children and Young People’s Survey425. The Children’s and Young People’s survey identified the importance of localfacilities. The research confirmed the findings of similar work elsewhere, that akey driver for recreation (and therefore also physical activity) is the opportunity tosocialise with friends (Figure 52). Sport in its own right is fairly unattractive, whilstusing parks and green spaces is of almost the least interest for both children andyoung people.
