1994 cont The White Paper, "Tackling Drugs Together", Cm.2678, proposed a new strategy<br />
which, while maintaining the emphasis on law enforcement, recognised the need for stronger<br />
action to reduce the dem<strong>and</strong> for illegal drugs by increasing the resources available to schools<br />
to train teachers <strong>and</strong> to support innovative projects in drug education <strong>and</strong> other preventive<br />

The Scottish situation was reviewed in "Drugs: Meeting the Challenge" (chairman,<br />
Lord Fraser) by a committee <strong>of</strong> the Drugs Task Force.<br />

current regional <strong>and</strong> district health authorities <strong>and</strong> family health services authorities <strong>and</strong> led<br />
to the formation <strong>of</strong> 100 single health authorities covering both primary <strong>and</strong> secondary care.<br />

Mental <strong>Health</strong> (Patients in the Community) Act (c.52) established the concept <strong>of</strong><br />
supervised treatment in the community <strong>and</strong> gave the supervisor the authority to take patients<br />

Disability Discrimination Act (c.50) made it illegal to discriminate against disabled<br />
people; revoked registration as a disabled person <strong>and</strong> the "Quota Scheme" for the proportion<br />
<strong>of</strong> disabled people required to be employed by the larger employers (see 1944); gave<br />
employees the right to claim compensation if they were discriminated against when applying<br />
for a job or removed from a job because <strong>of</strong> physical or mental impairment; dealt with<br />
accessibility to premises <strong>and</strong> transport; <strong>and</strong> set up the National Disability Council. See 1999.<br />
Pensions Act (c.26) was an extensive act which included sections about the<br />
equalisation <strong>of</strong> pensionable age <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> age <strong>of</strong> entitlement to certain benefits from 2010.
