3. A Deaf user or service provider (public or private) approaches the interpreterdirectly, arrangements are made directly between the two parties <strong>and</strong> nobooking agency is involved. All subsequent administration <strong>and</strong> communicationis h<strong>and</strong>led by the interpreter. There is no definitive information in relation to who are the mainusers <strong>of</strong> sign language interpretation services. However, one way to gauge themain users <strong>of</strong> sign language interpretation services in Irel<strong>and</strong> is to look at the clientbase <strong>and</strong> client expenditure <strong>of</strong> Irish <strong>Sign</strong> Link. In 2005, Irish <strong>Sign</strong> Link's client basetotalled 682 (comprised <strong>of</strong> individuals <strong>and</strong> organisations).In figures 3.4 below, the client base <strong>of</strong> Irish <strong>Sign</strong> Link has been grouped bysector. Commercial sector here refers to businesses, banks, broadcasters etc.Personal sector refers to individual Deaf people who are clients <strong>of</strong> Irish <strong>Sign</strong> Link.Education sector refers to all educational institutions, with the vast majority in thiscategory being third level institutions. The health category refers to hospitals,health boards etc. The public sector refers to Government departments, thecourts etc; Voluntary category refers to all voluntary organisations, including Deafcommunity representative organisations.
