6. <strong>Rila</strong> Municipality 13,000 ha.<br />

7. Blagoevgrad Municipality 3,800 ha.<br />

8. Simitli Municipality 573 ha<br />

9. Razlog Municipality 2,300 ha.<br />

10. Belitsa Municipality 1,394 ha<br />

11. Yakoruda Municipality 4,666 ha<br />

Total area of the <strong>Rila</strong> <strong>Nature</strong> <strong>Park</strong> 107,923.7 ha<br />

The following shall be prohibited in the <strong>Rila</strong> National <strong>Park</strong>:<br />

1) construction unless provided for under the <strong>Management</strong> <strong>Plan</strong> and related to<br />

the needs of administration, science and education, tourism, animal breeding<br />

(shelters) and forest road maintenance;<br />

2) research and use of ores and minerals and of aggregate;<br />

3) pollution of water and areas with household, industrial and other waste;<br />

4) bivouacking and lighting of fires outside specified locations;<br />

5) damaging of rock formations, trees, bushes and picking of flowers, as well as<br />

intentional disturbance of wild animals;<br />

6) grazing of goats;<br />

7) use of fertilizers and plant protection chemicals;<br />

8) introduction of plant and animal species not inherent to the region;<br />

9) clear felling and forestation with species that are not inherent to the region or<br />

in the forest vegetation belts, as well as seeds and seedlings from other<br />

regions;<br />

10) gathering of forest fruits and mushrooms for commercial and industrial<br />

purposes or in large quantities;<br />

11) setting of traps, use of poison and sedatives in culling of wild animals;<br />

The following shall be allowed in the <strong>Park</strong>:<br />

1) hay-making and grazing of livestock (other than goats) in the pastures and in<br />

the meadows;<br />

2) leading of livestock along specific trails;<br />

3) gathering of herbs in certain quantities and in certain areas, as well as seeds,<br />

plants and animals for scientific purposes and when permitted by the park<br />

administration following agreement with the Committee of Forests, with the<br />

Ministry of Environment and with the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences;<br />

4) renewal, selective cutting and improvement of the integral protective<br />

functions and sanitary condition of forests;<br />

5) culling of wild animals where they endanger the existence of other species or<br />

ecosystems through processes of degradation, or the health of their own<br />

populations, allowed by the park administration and following agreement with<br />

<strong>Rila</strong> <strong>Monastery</strong> <strong>Nature</strong> <strong>Park</strong><br />
