1.0 General information regarding <strong>Rila</strong> <strong>Monastery</strong> <strong>Nature</strong> <strong>Park</strong><br />

1.1 Location, boundaries and territory of the <strong>Park</strong> and other<br />

categories of protected areas included within<br />

<strong>Rila</strong> <strong>Monastery</strong> <strong>Nature</strong> <strong>Park</strong> is located in <strong>Rila</strong> Mountain, in the southwestern region<br />

of Bulgaria (Fig. 1), between 42°03’ and 42°11’ northern latitude and 23°12’ and<br />

23°32’ eastern longitude. Administratively, the entire <strong>Park</strong> falls within the territory of<br />

the <strong>Rila</strong> Municipality within the watersheds of the Rilska and Iliyna Rivers. The<br />

lowest <strong>part</strong>s of <strong>Rila</strong> <strong>Monastery</strong> NP are situated at altitudes about 750m above sea<br />

level (asl), while the highest point in its territory is Rilets Peak (2, 713m asl).<br />
