In these verses, we have the characterof the persons orgovemment on whose account theseplagueswere sent. In the first place, they are representedasidolaters, as worshippintg devils, i ols of old,&c., full of murder, sorceries, ornication, and gieit.This exactly agrees with the description John has givenof the " womansitting on the scarlet-colored beast, fullof names of blasphemy, having seven heads and tenhorns. And the woman wasarrayed in purple and scarletcolor, and decked with gold, and precious stones, andpearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominationsand nlthiness of her fornication. And upon herforehead was a name written, Mystery, Babylon theGreai, the Mother qf Harhzts, and the abomination: of earth."
