To this_time we arelooking, for this we are waiting,and for this time welong and pray. Thy"kingdom come:" what is this but prayingfor Christ to come? Surely, everyman whothus prays, virtually says, Lord_Jesus ;" and we fear that many who are inthe habit of saying these words, do not understandthe import of the prayer. Whatkingdom is this we ask to come fl The gospel?No. Why not? Because the gospelhas already come. It vas first preached toAbraham, and then to the Jews,-afterwardsto the Gentiles, and then in all the world, asa witness unto all nations;-and then shallthe end come. Now are 'wepraying for akingdom to come, which,as soon as it comesand is proclaimed among all nations, hathan end? This cannot be: pray for a kingdomto come, which has been in the earthcertainly four thousand years,-how foolish lWhat do we meanby praying "thy kingdomcome?" We must mean, if we haveany meaning, that which the Holy Spiritinspired,-the kingdom which Daniel speaks6
