What can we catalogue osay all the inventions inthe arts? What of all the improvements in science?In all this, is it not very evident that this sign is now fulfillingto the very letter?5. The great increase of riches, and desire for layingup worldly treasures, as described by James v. 1-3, " Goto, now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseriesthat shall come upon you; your riches are corrupted,and your garmentsaremoth-eaten; our gold and yoursilver is cankered, and the rust of them shall be a witnessyou,aglainstand shall eat your flesh as it werefire. e have heaped treasure together for the lastdays." When, since the writer of this epistlewas onour earth, has there been such an increase of gold andsilver, and treasures of this life, as at this day? Ourrich men arelaying up their gold, silver, and treasuresin abundance. But, though as this individual exertionfor riches would notcompletely fulfil our text, they haveentered into all manner of companies and monopolies,to "heap treasure together."
