'PREFATORYREMARKS.Dan Bttornnt Hnnzs :-I send youa few thoughts forpublication on the text, Matt. v. 5: "Blessed are the meelr,for they shall inherit the earth," with a dissertation onthe |260 days of Daniel and John. on this latter articleI have nothing to say, except to invite the critical examinationof the students of prophecy who oppose the theoryI advocate, and to show, if they can, that these propheticperiods did not end in 1798.My object in the first article, you will readily perceive,is to try, if possible, to get some of our brethren of thespiritual reign, and also those of the English view, tolook at the promises of God in their proper light; and,if possible,to save some of them from preaching a doctrinewhich flatters the camal heart with the idea of afuture peace and safety, andprevents many a carelessand unwary soul l'romseeing the awful danger they arein, promising themselves a long time to come, when sud#den destruction is at the door.Two ideas I hope our brethren will weigh well beforetheygo about deceiving souls, as I do most solemnly andsincerely believe their doctrine is calculated to do.1., Is this, promise made to all the redeemed; oronlyto those who may live in. some age of the present evilworld? I hope some of the advocates of the spiritualreign, will answer this question honestly and fairly. Didthe disciples who heard Christ, do right in believing inthis promise for theniselves? or did they understand theSavior to refer to some of the meek who might live insome after age?
