And I saw, and behold,a white horse, and he that sat on him had a bow;and a. crown wasgiven unto him; and he went forthconquering and to conquer." The " beast," in this passage,is the first, which was like a lion, representing thechurch in its first state, in the days ofthe apostles, whenthe church went every where, preaching the word, bold ass lion. The white horse, and him that sat upon him, representJesus Christgoing forth in the Qwer of the gospel.This is prove by the passage, ev. xix. 11-13,"And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse;and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True,and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. Hiseyes were as a flame of tire, and on his head were manycrowns; and he had a name written that no man knewbut he himself, and he was clothed in a vesture dippedin blood; and his name is called The Word of God."This B the same personage as the other, and both placesrepresent the same thing, only the first description is rep~resenting the spread of the in the beginning ofthe gospel day, the other at tglospel e end of the gospel periodunder which we are now living.
