Some have supposed that itwould be purely spiritual, by the Holy Spirit's induence,when all, or a large share of mankind who then shouldbe on the earth, would be regenerated and become thesubjects of his kingdom;that there would beno tempting devi spiritual to deceive, nor any kingdomson theearth, but what would be subject to Christ's spiritualreign, and the church would enjoy a long Sabbath ofrest; and the long-desired period of some who professto be the servants of Christ would come; when churchand state would be united, and war would cease to theend ofthe world, and the world would increase in riches,arts, and science to an amazing degree, beyond any thingwe have yet conceived; thousands would inha it theearth where there are but tens now, and man would liveto a good old age, and nations be born in a day. Thistheory is the most rational one I have been able to discover,aside from the glorious reign of Christ with hispeople in a state of immortality.To the above theory 1 have many scriptural objections.Although the advocates of this theory call it spiritual,yet a large share, if not all, are temporal blessings othis kingdom, and are exactly the same that the Jewsbelieved they should possess at Christ's first coming.Again : they must suppose, if this he true, that theru ers of the world must all be Christians, or pmfesaedlyso.
