Is it the wisdom of men, or of this world P Ianswer, No. For Paul says, lCor. ii. 4, 13, "And myspeech and my preaching was not with enticing wordsof man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the spirit andof power; that your faith should not stand in the wisdomof man, _but in the power of God. Howbeit wespeakwisdom among them that are perfect; yet not the wisdomof this world; nor of the princes of this world, thatcome to nought. But wespeak the wisdom of God in amystery,even the hidden wisdom which God ordainedbefore the world unto our glory." Now, if Paul wouldnot preach the wisdom of men or the world, surely theangel would not instruct John to use the wisdom ofman or of this world, "for the wisdom of this world isibolishuess with God," 1 Cor. iii. 19. And if Paul saidour faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, neitherwould John have given any thing that dependedon thewisdom of men for a foundation of our faith. But Paulhas taught us what true wisdom is, by saying, " Christ,the power of God, and the wisdom of God ;""But Godhath revealed them unto usbf his Spirit, for the Spiritsearcheth all things, yea, the eep thingsof God." AndPaul tells us how we may exercise this wisdom, 1 Cor.ii. 13, "Which things also we speak, not inthe wordswhich man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghostteacheth;comparing* spiritual things with spiritual."Here, then, my dear carer, is secret of wis~dom,thenireat to compare spiritual things w' spiritual; and thenvshavetllB7rl:ind and will afthe,Spirit¢and shall not be
