TWELVE HUNDRED AND SIXTY DAYS.the Scriptures are now darkened by a sackclothcovering? Even the Roman church,who so long suppressed its translation andcirculation, are now translating, and circulatingtoo, the Bible in many languages.Then, indeed, must the twelve hundred andsixty yearshave ended. Andyou may inquire,When? I answer, When the popelost his dominion, and Italywas made a republic;when free toleration onreligiousopinions was given by the power of theFrench; and when the Bible waspermittedto be read and published in any languageunder the whole heaven,-in the year of ourLord 1798. Then, from the year 538 to theyear 1798, was the twelve hundred andsixty years completed, and the word of Godfulfilled. Roman bishops may jeer at thesecalculations; but one thing is true,-thewounded bird will always flutter.
