46nearly run out, as the writer verily believes,how is' the case between God andyour soul? Has not the cry gone forthfrom every Christian"land, Behold thebridegroom cometh, go ye out to meethim ?" Did youever see or hear such acry before, such a searching of Scripture,such amoving of mind from every land,such fearful forebodings ofthe hypocrites inevery sect, so little good sense used by ouropponents in their soarguments, muchskepticism and Gemian Neology, ridiculeand scofling,as the opposers of this cryuse? Yet what has been the effect ? Theeditors of ourreligious periodicals have refusedto give our reasons. Denunciation,falsehood, bombast and ridicule, have beentheir common weapons of attack. But theyhave fallen harmless at our feet.Nothingcan be more evident than that God is onour side. What l a few ignorant fanaticsraise such a cry, that scores of ourgreat,learned, doctorated men of science, puffedand lauded by every penny paper in theland, with all their skill and tact in argument,have never been able to startapillaror remove a landmark ! Surely myfriend, you will examine these things; and ifwill not, you cannot, youthey are so, youdare not fall to sleep and let that come upon
