Concluding Remarks: the Paradox in PanamaThe Avatar in Panamafrom which Jaramillo Levi's reader must make deductions, or it may beincomplete. While often not dealing with a linear continuous narrative, language and vocabulary thus become clues to plotting and storylinewhich consequently calls for more careful consideration on the part ofthe text’s recipient. What also strikes the reader, aside from Jaramillo Levi’sinventive means of depicting the double, is his ingenuity in seducing it, ifnot onto the pages of his fiction, into the imagination of his audience. This may be realised in a blatant way by evoking the alter-ego throughthe purposeful conjuring or summoning, through the strength of desirealone, timely coincidences (which are consistent with the nature of theuncanny), and sensory cues as was the case in the modern story of thedouble. It may also surface in a more contemporary fashion throughrecall and memory, sublimination in the form of artistic production, andthe dissolution of distinguishing features between the various levels ofconsciousness.Every thesis creates its own double: a volume of everything itleaves out. Jaramillo Levi’s prolific production guarantees a challengefor the author of any study of substantial length who strives to keep hisor her scholarship current. Since the commencement of this study,Jaramillo Levi has published at least two editions of poetry; 10 twocompilations of ensayos; 11 and at least nine collections of short stories. 12These latest publications will, no doubt, provide new material and manyopportunities for future research projects. With some luck there will bemany more cuentos to come.10 Jaramillo Levi, Entrar saliendo (Panamá: Fundación Cultural Signos, 2006); Echarraíces.
