flexibility will support ECA’s studio-based provision. Membership of all reviews will
be allocated by Academic Services (TPR) or the College of Humanities and Social
Science (PPR) and approved by the Director of Academic Standards and Quality
Assurance.
In addition to fulfilling the role of periodic quality review, IRAPs are used to validate
new programmes / changes to existing curriculum. Following merger, Boards of
Studies within the new ECA will fulfil this role.
Within the new ECA the next scheduled TPR of undergraduate provision is that of
History of Art in 2012/13. It is noted at this point that consideration of the MA
(Honours) in Fine Art could form part of the subject-specific remit for the TPR, but
that the exact focus of this TPR will be clarified further as part of the standard
preparations for the review. In terms of postgraduate provision, a PPR of the School
of Arts, Cultures and the Environment was already scheduled for 2011/12. There is
scope for the PPR to include a light touch look at current ECA postgraduate provision
within a broader review of the new ECA, the exact scope of which is still to be
determined.
Senate Quality Assurance Committee is asked to approve these proposals.
Annual Programme Monitoring Review (APMR)
The new ECA will operate within the guidelines for the annual monitoring of
programmes in place in the College of Humanities and Social Science, and that
further discussion takes place involving the CHSS Associate Dean for Quality and
relevant colleagues, to ensure that CHSS annual QA guidelines accommodate
requirements specific to programmes currently within ECA. The CHSS guidelines are
high-level and will enable ECA to continue with the valuable features of its APMR
process.
The current ECA APMR process includes the review of student support departments.
It is proposed that the review of all student support services previously carried out
under APMR transfers on merger to the University’s scheme managed by the Quality
Unit of Registry Academic Services.

ELIR
In advance of the University’s ELIR the coverage of the merger with ECA in our
Reflective Analysis has been discussed with the QAA, the Assistant Principal of ECA
and the University's merger project officer. It has been agreed that the merger will be
covered in a sub-section of section 1 of the RA, with links to the merger papers on
the University’s website. We are able to supply a brief update paper to supplement
the RA nearer to the time of the review, and a section on ECA will be included in this
paper. The process for communicating with ECA and ACE staff and students about
the merger will be covered as part of this.
Collaborative Provision
ECA documentation regarding its collaborative provision (eg joint programmes with
other institutions, exchange agreements with overseas institutions) is currently being
reviewed as part of the work of the Collaborative Provision task group of Senate
4
