Good Office Practice and enhancing the website content and accessibility
Challenges
Significant staff resource has been taken up with planning the move to the main Library in
July 2011. The development of shared reception and back office functions with Student
Counselling will present operational challenges.
The forthcoming merger with the eca and the Distance Education Initiative will have
significant impact on student numbers, service delivery and the workload of the Disability
Office. Disabled student numbers continue to increase as do the challenges in dealing with
some students with mental health issues and those with Aspergers Syndrome (who often
also experience mental health problems). It is likely that the number of students dropping
in to the service will increase when we move to the Main Library. (Usage of the library has
increased by 54% since the building has been redeveloped).
Non-implementation of adjustments recommended by the Disability Office poses a
significant challenge. This not only puts the University at risk of legal action, but can be
difficult for Disability Office staff to change attitudes and behaviour of academic
colleagues.
