Committee Membership & Terms of Reference
1. Committee Membership
1.1 Vice Convener
The current Vice Convener of the committee, Mr Alan Ducklin, Associate Dean of Quality
Assurance, College of Humanities and Social Science, will demit office in January 2012. It is
proposed that the Vice Convenership is assumed by Dr Gordon McDougall, Dean of Quality
Assurance, College of Science & Engineering and an ex officio committee member, with
effect from 1 August 2011.
1.2 External Representative
Representation on the committee of the Scottish higher education sector falls vacant on 31
July 2011, following the completion of the term of office of Ms Wendy Muir (University of
Glasgow). The appointment of the committee’s external representative follows the
University’s Code of Practice for External Examiners, and thus representation is not drawn
sequentially from the same institution and re-appointment is possible only after a period has
elapsed since the previous appointment.
It is proposed that Dr Jonathan Weyers, Director of Quality Assurance at the University of
Dundee, be appointed as Senate Quality Assurance Committee’s external representative of
the Scottish higher education sector for the period 1 August 2011 to 31 July 2014.
1.3 Representative of Student Support Services
Ms Sheila Williams, Director of the Disability Office, is confirmed as the representative of
student support services for the period August 2011 to July 2013.
1.4 Representative of the College of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine
Professor Karen Chapman to be appointed for the period August 2011 to July 2014.
1.5 Representative of Academic Registry
The Director of Academic Registry will cease to be a member of the committee at the end of
the current academic year.
1.6 Institutional contact for the 21 st Century Graduate Enhancement Theme
The institutional contact for the 21 st Century Graduate Enhancement Theme is currently a
member of both Senate Quality Assurance Committee and Senate Learning and Teaching
Committee. The focus of the Theme is more fully aligned with the remit of the latter. It is
therefore proposed that the institutional contact for the Theme ceases to be a member of
Senate Quality Assurance Committee at the end of the current academic year.
2
