Joueur de défense avec le National de la Ligue Senior,
Sylvio Mantha se joint aux Canadiens et entreprend du même
coup une carrière de 13 saisons avec le Tricolore.
Le 30 septembre 1923, les Canadiens font signer un contrat à
Howie Morenz. Celui qui sera surnommé « l’Éclair de Stratford »
sera réuni à Aurèle Joliat et Billy Boucher pour former la
« Speedball Line » qui sera l’une des lignes d’attaques les plus
dangereuses de la LNH.
À sa 14 e saison dans l’uniforme des Canadiens (sa 7 e dans la
LNH), Georges Vézina mène le circuit avec une minuscule moyenne
de buts alloués de 1,97. Vézina n’accorde que 48 buts en
24 matchs et partage aussi le sommet de trois jeux blancs dans
la LNH avec Clint Benedict d’Ottawa.

Racine et Louis Gosselin) investissent 40 000 $ pour l’installation
de la glace artificielle qui devra être complétée au cours de la
prochaine année. L’absence de glace artificielle en 1923-1924
privera les partisans des Canadiens des célébrations de la
coupe Stanley en 1924 puisque le dernier match de la série
finale contre Calgary doit être jouée à Ottawa.

artificial ice installed for the following season. The lack of
artificial ice for the 1923-24 season deprives Canadiens’ fans
from the 1924 Stanley Cup celebrations as the last game of the
finals against Calgary had to be played in Ottawa.

Defenseman Sylvio Mantha leaves the National from the Senior
League to join the Canadiens and enjoy a prosperous 13-year
career with the Flying Frenchmen.
On September 30, the Canadiens sign Howie Morenz to a
contract. The one they would call “The Stratford Streak” will
team up with Aurèle Joliat and Billy Boucher to form the
“Speedball Line” which quickly became the NHL’s most
dangerous forward line.
