At the beginning of 20 th century it was recorded the existance of confessional Jewish
school in Sarajevo and more meldars with the Jewish communities. But, as, with the coming
of emancipation, the Jewish female children were seized with communal schooling, according
to the books from 1910, 1.350 of Jewish children, in total, were attending primary school in
B&H, what was a far greater number in relation to constitutive majority, what was
conditioned by the city character of Jewish population.
Subvention of the state in respect of supporting of Jewish schools, in order to bring up
the children in national spirit, was worthless, because if the subventions were given according
to the number of believers, it would turn out as if nothing had been given. But, in spite of the
eminent influence and contribution of the Jews on the whole economic and cultural
development of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the Double Monarchy, their participation in
the political life of B&H was a small one, because of much emphasized tolerant relation
toward the authorities, what was conditioned by specific position and number of the Jews,
who, comparing to the others, were not being organized on national-confessional basis.
