In the War Damage Report as of August, 1945 submitted by Mavro Benau, son of<br />

Ignjat, a clerk employed in the Ministry of Finance of the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia,<br />

residing in Knez Danilo Street No. 21, the inheritor of the damaged party, it was stated that<br />

the damaged party Edita Nojbah, daughter of Hugo Nojbah, age 30, pharmacist, a permanent<br />

resident of Banjaluka – Bahtijarevića Street No. 4, the Jewess, during the German occupation<br />

as of April 15, 1941 that the German and Ustashe authorities caused the damage by<br />

destruction and confiscation of the property (very expensive things prepared for her wedding<br />

and cash as well). The total estimated damage and lost profit were 200.000 dinars according<br />

to the Submitter of the Request and the Municipal Commission.<br />

In the enclosed written Statement Mavro Benau states that before the war Edita<br />

Nojbah, daughter of Hugo, was a pharmacist employed in Železnička Bolnica – Dedinje,<br />

Belgrade. Although she was converted to Catholicism she had to run away when the Germans<br />

arrived. She made her escape to Stojan Bijelić, husband of her aunt and retiree residing in<br />

Bahtijarevića Street No. 4 in Banjaluka. After a while she returned to Belgrade, because she<br />

had all necessary documents and she was enabled to take all her possessions.<br />

At the time of German occupation she had all equipment for a bride because she was<br />

supposed to get marry for a lieutenant. Her trousseau was very expensive… apart from that<br />

she had a lot of cash - about 150.000 dinars. She took it all to Banjaluka… Later on Stojan<br />

Bijelić wrote that the Ustashe took her to the Gradiška concentration camp and all her staff<br />

were taken away and seized. Allegedly, she was shot by a firing squad… Estera Nojbah is the<br />

daughter of my sister Herta and I am as her uncle, her closest relative. 1807<br />

In the written Statement made on November 14, 1947 and given by Mavro Benau, the<br />

retired senior inspector of the Federal Ministry for Finance, who had the apartment in<br />

Belgrade, it was stated: "during the German occupation Edita Hugo Nojbah was taken to the<br />

Gradiška concentration camp on August 6, 1942." (On that date she was pronounced dead). 1808<br />
