Youth MOVE: Strategies <strong>for</strong> Chapter Development<br />
OBJECTIVES—Participants will learn:<br />
1. How to develop bylaws <strong>for</strong> a youth group<br />
2. Strategies <strong>for</strong> increasing membership <strong>for</strong> a youth group<br />
3. To employ methods <strong>for</strong> family organizations to support the development of a youth organization<br />
4. How to implement strategies <strong>for</strong> fundraising and marketing a youth group<br />
This Targeted Institute will focus on strategies and methods <strong>for</strong> developing Youth MOVE Chapters, as well as other<br />
youth groups and organizations. Faculty will offer strategies related to increasing chapter membership, developing<br />
bylaws, group sustainability, and other methods of chapter development. The in<strong>for</strong>mation to be highlighted is based on<br />
the Youth MOVE <strong>National</strong> Chapter Tool-Kit that was created <strong>for</strong> the direct use of chapters as a technical assistance<br />
resource to support their development. Strategies will also be derived from a document developed by Youth MOVE<br />
<strong>National</strong> to help family organizations support the development of youth organizations.<br />
Specific topics to be covered include:<br />
• Chapter membership including recruiting, retaining, and developing members<br />
• Bylaws development and other organizational procedures that assist in group productivity<br />
• Methods <strong>for</strong> family organizations to support the development and sustainability of youth groups and how to assist<br />
them properly<br />
• Establishing a speaker’s bureau and a writing team as methods of fundraising<br />
• Using social media outlets <strong>for</strong> marketing and how to market in the community<br />
Participants will have an opportunity to dialogue with other youth groups to strategize on effective methods of adapting<br />
this in<strong>for</strong>mation to maximize benefits in their communities. The faculty team <strong>for</strong> the session will offer the perspectives<br />
of youth, youth engagement specialists, administrators, and Youth MOVE <strong>National</strong> Board Members.<br />
