Welcome to the <strong>2012</strong> Georgetown University <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Institutes</strong>. This is the<br />
fourteenth biennial <strong>Institutes</strong> conducted by the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Technical</strong><br />
<strong>Assistance</strong> <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> Children’s Mental Health at the Georgetown<br />
University <strong>Center</strong> <strong>for</strong> Child and Human Development. The Annie E. Casey<br />
Foundation is a long-standing partner in supporting the <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Institutes</strong>.<br />
This year, the <strong>Institutes</strong> are entitled, Improving Children’s Mental Health Care in an<br />
Era of Change, Challenge, and Innovation: The Role of the System of Care Approach.<br />
At this time of great change, old ways of doing business are being re-examined, and<br />
re<strong>for</strong>ms in health care and child-serving systems are underway to improve services and<br />
outcomes. Answers and practical strategies are needed to address many critical issues.<br />
The system of care approach has been at the <strong>for</strong>efront of providing effective strategies<br />
and solutions. The <strong>2012</strong> <strong>Training</strong> <strong>Institutes</strong> will focus on innovative approaches, and<br />
how lessons learned from systems of care can guide ef<strong>for</strong>ts to improve children’s<br />
mental health service delivery in a dramatically changing environment.<br />
The sessions offered at the <strong>Institutes</strong> will highlight strategies that work. During each<br />
block of concurrent sessions, you can choose to attend either one Institute or two<br />
Workshops. Each Institute and Workshop is offered twice so that you will have an<br />
opportunity to attend the sessions of your choice. A selection of sessions specifically<br />
focused on services in Native American communities is included<br />
in the program, as well as our highly successful Youth<br />
Leadership Track. In addition, the <strong>Institutes</strong> are<br />
offering a series of Targeted <strong>Institutes</strong><br />
that will provide intensive training experiences<br />
<strong>for</strong> participants involved in a variety of roles.<br />
